About “Age Of Man”

(Unreviewed)

On the first track of their 2018 album Anthem of the Peaceful Army, Greta Van Fleet draw on Christian theology and mythological imagery to tell a message about looking for wisdom in a world that is confusing and how that search can lead to enlightenment and the acceptance of our responsibility as human beings.

The song came about during a break last Christmas in Chattanooga; the song started as a riff and arrangement that just grew from there …“it was just a thought,” Jake said. A little later in the week, surrounded by hikes and nature, and acoustic instruments in a cabin in the woods, “it was the perfect area; being in isolation. We started to identify with that song and what it could be. It’s very epic in the way it opens and goes along. That’s when the lyrics came in. Once it was recorded, we said ‘This has to be the opening track of the album.”
